UVEI Graduate Receives Fellowship
Cristina Veresan, Class of 2006, has received a fellowship to participate in the Food Science Professional Development Program, sponsored by the FDA and the National Science Teachers Association. This summer, she will travel from Port St. Lucie, Florida, where she teaches seventh-grade life sciences at the Southport Middle School, to Washington, D.C., where she will tour FDA facilities and learn about food safety.
Veresan intends to incorporate her new food science knowledge into her curriculum. "I want to include big-systems thinking," Versan says. "Where did the ingredients come from, what process did they go through before they came to us?"
Later in the fall, Veresan will go to Nashville, Tennessee to explain to the members of the National Science Teachers Association how she incorporated the food science content into her lesson plans.
